After just one preseason game, the Washington Commanders already face two major storylines shaping their 2026 campaign.
All eyes are on Jayden Daniels, who aims to bounce back after an injury-riddled season, but Marcus Mariota’s health looms large. With Mariota sidelined for the rest of preseason yet expected back for Week 1, his veteran experience could be pivotal—whether stepping in for Daniels or serving as the vital link between new offensive coordinator David Blough and the young quarterback.
Rookie debut buzz surrounds Sonny Styles, whose underwhelming showing against Miami’s offense has fans questioning expectations. Thrust into the “green dot” role and tasked with calling defensive plays, Styles had to navigate NFL speed and communication for the first time. Will his athleticism translate with more experience, or should concerns start to build about the number 7 pick? The answers to these questions could define Washington’s path this season.
